The early years…

  • The original The Landing’s Declaration of Covenants was created and signed by Louis Freedman (Columbia Communities’ Vice-President) and William S. Cherry (Guaranty Service Corporation’s Vice-President) on May 27 -1976

  • Street lights permit agreement approved on July 30 1976

  • January 7 1979, a special bonus package offered by developers to prospective homeowners ended. Developers paid all closing costs.

  • August 2nd 1979 a “Class A” Committee was elected to represent its members in matters of common interest to the homeowners, the Association and the Developer.

  • Rules for use of common ground areas were written in November 1979 to supplement the general restrictions cited in the Declaration. Revised in February 1985 and adopted in 09/10/1990, to be revised again in 1999.

… throughout the years…

  • The first “Party Night”, or game night, at the Clubhouse occurred Saturday July 5th 1980 with low attendance. Water shortage was critical then.

  • April 15th 1980 the first edition of  “Living at The Landing” newsletter was published by then editor the late Art Jones.

  • In April 1981 a usable boat ramp was completed with the personal financing of late Mel Schuler and several other homeowners. The cost for excavation and concrete was in the neighborhood of $ 3,500. Afterwards donations were accepted by the generous homeowners. None of the funds came out of the association coffers.  

  • Cable TV added to the area in 1989 by Cable Vision Company (out of Azle)

  • Street dedication started with a special “Town Hall” meeting on April 1st 1991 under the leadership of then Board President the late Melvin Shuler. Streets were turned over to Tarrant County in December 1991 to reduce taxes and to relieve the association of responsibility for street maintenance and repairs.

… throughout the years…

  • By 1985 and 1990 only 71 and 86 houses, respectively, had been built.

  • In February 1988 the review and approval process for new construction was transferred from the developer’s control to the Homeowners Board and the Architectural Control Committee (ACC). Members were recruited to develop the guidelines and standards from which to operate.

  • On Jan 26 1987 the first Board of Directors consisting entirely of Homeowners is stablished, held its first meeting, elected officers and approved the budget and assessment for the year. Candidates for the association’s first Board of Directors were chosen by the 1986 The Landing’s Homeowners Committee. Robert D. Coggeshall was chosen as the president of the new Board.

  • Annual assessments were $775 in 1989

  • December 1992 first computer was purchased to come into the 90s with record keeping and correspondence.

…late nineties into the 21st century…

  • Park wall by the boat launch ramp was built in 1996

  • Addition to the clubhouse to cover the area leading to the restrooms was done in 1996

  • New Marina walkway/deck and railing were built in 1999

  • The Landing became part of Fort Worth in 2000 as part of the Lake Country annexation.

  • In 2006 the first The Landing’s website was created by then resident Greg Bunschoten, who even after moving away, was so kind to act as the webmaster until an updated website was created (June 2021) by a team of The Landing’s volunteers.
